#1. I'm going to be a bit curt or maybe even disrespectful here about this issue. But I'm not here to tell you what you want to hear but need to hear. If you are investing money in pool tables, a new car every 7 years, taking 5-figure vacations annually, spending 5 figures for your children to go to school...
And you have not completed or updated your estate plan over the last three years? Your life and children are simply vanity projects. You're not serious about building wealth and leaving a legacy. You just like to sound good for your peers.
Prince, Michael, Aretha, Chadwick, Joe, Sarah, Arnold, Danny, Takeoff, YOU.

You say to yourself it's not important because I don't have a lot. Remember, I'm a former investment advisor (quietly been obtaining my licensing again, but don't tell anybody) and financial services professional for approximately two decades. That is dumbapple excuse. If you have less, then that means your family needs you to have your affairs together even more, because you cannot afford to squander anything.
I served the entire state of Michigan and consulted across the entire United States. The super-majority of my wealthy clients inherited their wealth. Period. The super-majority of my clients were not athletes or entertainers. They were regular Joes & Janes that inherited 20k here. 10k there. 100k sometimes. But were able to start businesses early on and jump-start their wealth-building journey because Granddad & Grandma had a joint survivorship life insurance policy and an estate plan (a will, durable power of attorney, medical directives, and pour over at minimum).
The African Diaspora is slated to have a collectively ZERO networth in approximately 20-30 years. Stop drinking the kool-aid and believing social media hype. YOU, your friends, and your family are lying. 90% don't have it done. Hire an estate planning attorney (not some online service). Or call me to set an appointment. Do it TODAY.
No one rehearses funerals.
#2. No one rehearses disabilities either.
What is the likelihood of becoming disabled?
Men have a 43% chance of becoming seriously disabled during their working years. Women have a 54% chance. At age 42, it is four times more likely that you will become seriously disabled than that you will die during your working years.
- Acquire a life policy with a disability income rider.
- Acquire an own occupation (ask me about this later) disability plan.
- And, or acquire a business expense disability plan to cover business expenses (rent, accounts payables, supplies, utilities, operations, etc., etc.) allowing you to recover quickly after you recover. Yes, these programs exist, and they are very inexpensive.
This issue is destroying more small business owners than the pandemic ever did.
#3. The I "don't do or like sales" attitude is going to result in one thing happening to you eventually. Someone who understands what sales is (simply the transference of belief and passion for what you do) is going to take your customers. Or you'll never take on enough customers to scale your impact and revenues, and the next downturn, pandemic, or challenge lurking around the corner is going to detonate your business.
Hire someone who is effective at sales. Or overcome this mental hurdle. Otherwise, your business is just a hobby. There are a handful of organs that need to be healthy for your business to live, grow, and thrive.
- Sales
- Marketing
- Tax & Accounting
- Legal
- Human Resources
If you neglect any of these organs. Your business is on borrowed time.
Here is an approach that I've used to help entrepreneurs and sales professionals overcome their fear of sales. Listen, like, comment, and share. We need to help more people. |
