I started a company approximately a year ago, believing that my current skill stack and emotional maturity would allow me to have abnormal success in a relatively short amount of time. I'm being coquettish about the specific venture because I believe my failings can transpire in any endeavor... and because I'm going to record a video where I lay everything out in its entirety. This is a small plate. The entree is coming.

I DONโT WANT A BOSS ANYMORE
A common refrain that many people articulate for their desire to try entrepreneurship is that they no longer want to deal with supervision or having a boss. The idea of calling your own shots, determining who you work with and how you work, and how many vacations you can take is very alluring.
However, the reality of the matter is successful entrepreneurs understand an even greater degree of accountability is required of them than what the super-majority of people experience as an employee. Matter of fact, you actually have several bosses to answer to.
In other words, if youโre taking aim at entrepreneurship with the hopes of no longer having to be accountable to someone or people, youโre in for a rude awakening.
I WANT TO DO SOMETHING THAT IS EASIER OR LESS INTENSE
โChoose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,โ
Itโs a cute, whimsical maxim that gets tossed around a lot. Except, it just doesn't carry much water, especially if you aren't born into money or social status.
In the beginning, youโre going to expend a lot of energy, time, and or capital without little to no return. In other words, youโre going to have to do a lot of things that you donโt get compensated for in the beginning, so you can be compensated later on for things you donโt have to do.
Most entrepreneurs should not expect to enjoy a profit (revenues subtract expenses) in their business for at least 2 to 3 years.
Imagine opening your doors at 6:00 AM and closing at 10:00 PM - preparation two hours before business hours, and closing procedures before you lock the doors for the night- five, six, perhaps seven days a week. You're answering an innumerable number of emails, phone calls, text messages (the happy and the very, very disgruntled alike) from everyone underneath the sun, day and night. You're interviewing, onboarding, training, and firing. Of course, there are 100 dials, 20 door knocks a day, midnight hours spent curating email and social campaigns, or some combination thereof. Plus, consuming voluminous amounts of content on an hourly and daily basis to develop your expertise.
Then there is the mental gymnastics associated with being completely submerged in the work, and coming to grips with the absolute acquiescence to your success that will be required because, in the beginning, you have to do what the business needs of you rather than what you prefer to do.
Two to three years of the aforementioned. Two to three years absent profits, meaning the inability to pay yourself a substantial income. At then the ultimate realization that you have to work three times as hard as youโve ever had to work on your job, and thatโs not the hard part.
Smile and don't be afraid of the work.
I DONโT BELIEVE IN NUMBERS, STATISTICS, OR PERCENTAGES.
I heard a fellow entrepreneur articulate that they donโt believe in or make decisions based on statistics. I donโt โbelieve in that stuff.โ Well, they believe in you. And the financial institutions, investors, and your pocketbook donโt require that you believe in the utility of quantitative data, only your compliance.
Ignore demographic data, and youโll find yourself investing in something tantamount to trying to establish an 8 track tape enterprise in a 23rd-century economy. Or buying a house with an ARV of $50,000 for $250,000 because of some emotional connection to it, or some anecdotal exception to the rule.
Business plans matter. Understanding your P & L statement matters. Understanding peopleโs buying decisions and behaviors matters. Being aware of whether the market is shrinking or growing will often determine your success to a greater degree than your talent, hard work, or intellect ever will.
Are there exceptions or examples of people who didn't have to deal with the aforementioned realities? Yes. Lottery winners exist too. However, do you want to base whether to expend your life's energies on those odds, or be clear about the cost of the promise?

WHAT ARE THE 3 UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS THAT SET YOU APART?
In other words, what is your signature worth? What are your guarantees?
Jimmy Johnโs became notorious for their โfreaky fastโ promotion, claiming the establishment could put a sandwich in your hand in less than four minutes. Dominoes guarantees if you are not completely satisfied with your Domino's Pizza experience, your monies will be refunded.
In my over two decades of being a very frequent flyer at Starbucks, I've grown to anticipate after frequenting a specific location a handful of times, that the baristas will either know my name and, or be able to anticipate my order.
The capital acquisition space in the Detroit Metropolitan area is inundated with businesses, organizations, professionals, and various other entities promising to provide funding for small business owners. If you do a deep dive into their resumes, the extent of their wisdom and know-how can be attributed to having read one book and a handful of hours of YouTube. Or have simply hopped from one organization to another padding their resumes with titles, but haven't been able to successfully build solvent business enterprises themselves.
QT Business Solutions is led by Tina Williams, who is highly experienced and a proven commodity after over a decade of finding and securing monies for aspiring and established business owners alike. In other words, she has receipts. However, the success of her enterprise and her effectiveness weren't enough to distinguish her from the pack.
With the introduction of a guarantee, Tinaโs continual maturation as a business leader, and some consistent promotion her business has become a prominent fixture in the business planning and capital acquisition space, and her brand is quickly becoming a household name in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. QT Business Solutions guarantees that as long a business owner meets a simple criteria uniformly applied by most financial institutions, a client of hers is guaranteed to obtain funding, else their monies are refunded.
Your guarantees can be robust and boisterous. I remember when guaranteed delivery times were didn't exist, and for an establishment to do so was a big deal. Or your guarantees can be something simple, and nuanced in accordance with the tastes and sensibilities of your clients. Itโs the consistency of the experience that matters. Itโs your patrons feeling like theyโre receiving more than what theyโre paying and the predictability of it that creates stickiness. This is what builds your brand.
Choose 1-3 phrases to describe your guarantees. For example:

Businesses may register for trademarks and DBAs to protect their marks. However, each form of protection has a different function for your companyโs intellectual property. Letโs take a look at what sets trademark and DBA registrations apart and whether or not entrepreneurs receive exclusive rights to both marks.
A trademark protects much more than the name of a business. Additional media that may qualify for trademark registration include phrases and taglines, logos, symbols, and designs unique to the business.
How do you know that your trademark is unique? The easiest way to find out is by conducting a trademark search. One of the simplest ways to start doing this is to search through a trademark database. Consider using The U.S. Patent and Trademark Officeโs popular tool called the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS). This database allows you to see which trademark applications have already been registered or if there are any pending or similar marks. If you notice a pending or registered mark is similar to your own, you cannot register your existing mark. Your impending registration will infringe upon the other mark. Instead, you will need to revise the trademark you wish to register to be a bit more unique or come up with a new idea altogether.
If you discover that there are no pending applications for your trademark, itโs a good idea to start filing for federal trademark registration. File a trademark application with your local Secretary of State or get help from a third-party document filing service, like MyCorporation!
The sooner you file to register a trademark,.... (continue reading @ https://gosmallbiz.com/trademarks-and-dbas-whats-the-difference/)

A common challenge shared by most entrepreneurs who are attempting to scale from a team of me to a team of we is an unwillingness to disconnect themselves from every process in their businesses. If this is you, it means you're feeling tired, frustrated, stressed, and feeling like there is never enough time. It's like a feeling of dread coloring everything you do, all the time, in the face of success and failures alike. You are literally working yourself to the brink of what will be an inevitable breakdown.
When an athlete injures a leg, ankle, knee, an eye socket, or tears their achilles tendon there is typically swelling followed by the immediate inability to execute. Because the injury is apparent, the natural reaction is to seek immediate medical attention, followed by days, weeks, and months of rehab. Afterward, great care is taken to make sure the athlete doesn't aggravate or resume activities that may cause even the smallest tear or setback during their recovery.
Well, how do you know when you've aggravated a mental injury? How do you know if you're suffering from an injury to the mind due to overexertion, or some type of trauma? The mind is the one body part that everyone has an opinion about but lack the ability to literally eyeball a brain injury (which would require you to crack open the skull) or damage done to the mind at the onset of an issue. A person can be operating normally without symptoms associated with an injury being apparent.
Implementing an operating system. Learning how to attract and retain the right talent around you. Relying on processes as opposed to you being the system is how you build a thriving, healthy business. Taking these steps is also necessary to maintain a thriving, healthy you.
What does daily medication or rehab look like? I don't know. I haven't earned a doctoral degree in medicine, and therefore if you feel like your mentally broken or exhausted beyond recovery I encourage you to seek professional, medical attention. However, I believe curating a life that includes the following activities may help:
If you're like most entrepreneurs you'll need to be intentional about scheduling time for these activities. What time of the day, how much time, and how often will you set aside time for your personal recuperation regimen? Choose three or create three of your own. Just do it.

ITโS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW THAT KILLS YOU IN BUSINESS. ITโS WHAT YOU DONโT KNOW. THE SMALL DECISIONS TODAY, CAN CUT DEEPEST TOMORROW. BE CURIOUS. BE A LITTLE PARANOID.
This list is by no means complete, but these are the questions I wished I would have known to ask, and received answers about when I first began my entrepreneurial journey 20 years ago.
