#entrepreneurshipisempowerment
Someone asked, rather commented, "You working during the holidays?!"
My response:
You're paying for that cell phone service during the holiday.
You're paying rent during the holiday.
You're buying beer during the holiday.
You're buying patronizing supermarkets during the holiday.
Buying gas during the holiday.
Paying for another month of Netflix during holiday.
Paying your car note and insurance.
And given you don't own any of the companies you're so religiously patronizing.....means you're working for the holidays too. The difference, I'm working on assets to attract cash flow, and you're working on being the best asset you can be for others.
I'm not one of those individuals that diminish the value of #educators as it relates to #entrepreneurship. Years ago one of my strongest advocates strongly encouraged me to become an educator on the secondary level, and then collegiate.
I do believe ardently that you cannot #lead people where you won't go, or #teach where you won't #grow. And especially when it comes to entrepreneurship I will always value the perspective of a tour guide over a travel agent. Still, educators instilled a healthy respect for academic and #intellectual exercise, and instilled a #confidence in me that I could achieve wherever I applied myself, when there were few around me who could see my tenacity and pinned up energy.
And I cannot lie. Very little gives me more energy than sharing #evaluatedexperience, and #actionablecontent that moves the ball forward for others. I love creating #successstories. I've resisted my calling for so long in many respects because I've always enjoyed #doingthings. But to deny your #strengths is to deny your #power. I'm going to start operating in my power way more often.

JuJuan Buford is a Detroit native, entrepreneur, business development professional, and writer dedicated to helping families, entrepreneurs, and business owners establish thriving enterprises, achieve financial independence, and build lives of satisfaction.
When I began using social media to grow my business interests. I didn't set out to be a social media influencer. I've always been very, very OK with working behind the scenes, creating the architecture, initiating, and bringing projects to fruition.
I enjoy simply watching people enjoy the entree I've prepared. I've never really needed them to know, it was my sweat equity that resulted in the satiating experience. I work best that way. Not that I don't believe recognition is important or that attention is necessary to build a successful business.
I'm just acutely aware that we don't know the names of the super-majority of multi-millionaires and billionaires that have built business empires and enjoy financial independence. Don't get sucked into the hype.
Everything started out as an idea or thought bouncing off the walls of someone's cerebral cortex. But the execution is why we know their names, or rather their work today. Execute my friends. Long lasting success and fame (if you desire it) are the accouterments of the former.

About This Episode:
With so many different opportunities being presented to you as an entrepreneur, how do you decide which ones to pursue and which ones to pass on? We had the pleasure of speaking with Karen Burton of SpaceLab Detroit who walked us through her journey as an entrepreneur, and how she was able to stay true to her mission and vision, no matter the project presented to her.
Karen is co-founder and CEO of SpaceLab Detroit, a shared office and co-working community of urban innovators who create smart solutions for their neighbors and the city. Building on her 30-plus years experience in the design and construction, she recently co-founded A/E Collaborative, consulting firm that brings together small firms to work on big projects.
Karen’s experience includes technical expertise, design, and construction documentation services for such projects as the One Campus Martius building (formerly Compuware Headquarters), The Lions Training Facility, Ford Field, Greektown Casino in Detroit, and City Center in Las Vegas. Payne brings over 20 years of event planning, organizational development, and talent management experience to the table.
Nina Payne of Foundation Management, LLC. Nina made the decision to liberate herself from the 60-70 hour work week in corporate america, and chose to climb a different ladder, strategically laying the building blocks from building a business part time, to transitioning to full time entrepreneurship in the highly competitive Corporate Event Management Industry.
She quickly grew her venture from a single member LLC to an enterprise managing 20+ independent contractors in a few short years, grabbing the attention of national artist management and event companies.
Payne’s company touts such clients as General Motors, Detroit Police Department, Detroit Public Safety Foundation, Delta, Shell, ASAE Conference, City of Detroit, Chene Park, Evok, DAPCEP, etc. In 2018 FMLLC received its second Spirit of Detroit Award for Excellent Community Service by the City of Detroit.
NextOppSocialis excited to lock arms with Payne and continue the mission of promoting and supporting entrepreneurship, providing actionable content to help aspiring and established business owners launch, build, grow, and scale their businesses.

About This Episode:
Making the transition from from a full time W-2 to 1099 entrepreneurship can be daunting and nerve wrecking. Some people say, you have to burn the bridges, jump, and grow wings on the way down. Or you can build relationships, enlist the help and goodwill of your colleagues, and even your employer (Yes! Your soon to be former employer) to help you make the transition.
This week we had the privilege of interviewing Tisha Hammond - The Small Business Cheerleader - who successfully made the transition from working in the government contracting industry and law enforcement, to small business consultant, requested public speaker and author, and social media influencer. Tisha shares how she was able to gain the support of her colleagues and employer, build community, gain respect, engage social media, and bring the table into the room, and set her own terms.

About This Episode: The prevailing narrative is that 41% of African American business owners closed their doors permanently during the pandemic. But what about the other 59%?!
