1. How do I become bigger than my challenges.
Life challenges are a lot like mechanical issues on a car. They don't just go away, but rather absent attention, they become worse. Rather than wishing for problems to go away, wish to acquire the learning, resources, or relationships required to eliminate them.
It's easy to get caught up in conflict or the rigmarole of life; especially when dealing with petty or small minded people. Just remember, when you choose to make them your focus, get down in the mud with them, you'll have to get dirty too. Rather than focusing on them or praying for the strength to battle your foes, ask yourself what is the bigger goal. To quote a passage I recently read in John C. Maxwell's "Talent is Never Enough":
What you commit yourself to will change what you are and make you into a completely different person.
I'd add what you focus on and commit yourself to. Do you really want to be a reflection of those who alienate you, the challenges that beset you, or a reflection of your best self?
2. What are the 3-5 things that if I accomplished them daily would make the biggest difference in my life?
For example:
- Prayer, Mindfulness & Affirmation Exercises, and Reviewing Your Goals. These things insure that you are setting your agenda, determining your direction, rather than the whirlwind called life that is waiting for you.
- Reading 10 pages of a good book (something that will sharpen you). Ten pages a day, 70 pages a week, 280 pages a month, approximately 15 pages a year. You're going to be more prepared and learned at something than 90% of the population. I call that a good start.
- 30 Minute Work Out. You choose. Sit ups or crunches. Jump rope followed by a walk or vice versa. Push ups, pull ups. Squats absent weights. Or a combination thereof. It's something most of us can do, that provides energy focus, and a sense of accomplishment.
- Focus on your KPIs. What are the key performance indicators that will make the biggest difference in your business? How many times are you going to invite new potential clients to learn about your business? What's the plan? When? How many presentations are you going to conduct? What tools do you need? Webcast or at a coffee shop? What do you need to do to optimize your presentation? Just a couple examples.
